ELSJ Awards
The ELSJ has established the Young Scholar Award and Paper of the Year Award.
A. Young Scholar Award
- Guidelines on Application
- (Purpose of the Award)
This award has been established in order to encourage young scholars in the fields of English literature, American literature, English language and English education. - (Conditions for application)
Applicants should:- Be a member of the ELSJ (the annual membership fee should have been paid prior to the time of application.)
- Be under the age of 37 at the time of the deadline for application or to have obtained their MA degree not earlier than 5 years prior to application.
- Not have been given the Award in the past (applicants who were given a prize for special merit may apply).
- (Award)
The Award will be given to papers judged to be of outstanding merit, and to papers judged to be of special merit. Judgment will be made by the Editorial Board. - (Prize Money)
Prize money of 100,000 yen will be given with the Young Scholar Award, and 50,000 yen to papers of special merit.
B. Paper of the Year Award
- (Purpose of the Award)
This award has been established in order to promote the research of younger members in the fields of English literature, American literature, English language and English education. - (Award Process)
All papers published in Studies in English Literature (both Japanese and English numbers) will be automatically considered for the Award. - (Award)
The Award will be given to papers published in Studies in English Literature (both Japanese and English numbers) which have been judged to be of exceptional merit by the Editorial Board. - (Prize Money)
Prize money of 50,000 yen will be given to the author(s) of the paper nominated for the Award on the condition that the author:- Has been a fully paid-up member of the ELSJ for two consecutive years, from two years prior to the submitting of the paper.
- Has not received the Paper of the Year Award prize money for two years prior to the submitting of the paper.
