Job Description for a Tenured Position in Literature

@The Faculty of Comparative Culture, Sophia University, invites applications for a tenured position in modern Western literature, which is part of its Humanities Program. Applicants who have research experience and teaching ability in modern European literature with emphasis on fiction are particularly welcome. Additional teaching ability in one or more of the following areas will be considered an asset: film studies, comparative literature, Asian-European literature, American literature, and gender in literature. Applicants must be committed to quality teaching at both introductory and advanced levels. In addition, applicants must be active professionally and be willing to participate in department and university administration and activities.
@This is a tenured position within the Department of Comparative Culture for the rank of lecturer or associate professor. A person with a doctorate or ABD in a Literature program is preferred. The Ph.D. dissertation should be completed by the date of appointment. The language of instruction is English. The appointment will be effective from either April 1 or October 1, 2005. Applications should include a cover letter (outlining academic background and research interests, teaching abilities and an explanation of the applicant's interest in being in Japan), a detailed curriculum vitae, the names and addresses of three referees, and a brief description of courses the applicant has taught or would be prepared to develop.
